Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival Saves & Steam Cloud

Check supported saving, actual PC file locations, Cloud limits and separate demo or full-game backup rules. Covers Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival.

Save locations and Cloud behaviour documented for the PC build and the console builds as captured on 12 October 2026. Paths are for the Windows release build; a demo build stores its own data separately.

On PC, Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival stores its saves in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Hellraiser\Saved\SaveGames\ and its settings in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Hellraiser\Saved\Config\Windows\. Steam Cloud is an official feature for the game, so those saves back up to your Steam account automatically, while the Xbox cloud save field is empty in reference documentation.

The practical reason to know the folder is that the game has around ten save slots and no chapter select, so rotating saves is the only way to redo a section you have passed. Backing up the folder is how you keep that option safe.

How saving works

Saving differs by platform in a way that matters for anyone planning a completion run.

  • PC — local save files in the folder below, backed up by Steam Cloud when online.
  • PS5 — manual saves are supported, and pausing is marked as offline play only.
  • Xbox — cloud save support is not documented; the reference entry leaves the Xbox cloud field empty.

Across platforms there is no chapter select and no post-credits free roam, so a save you overwrite is a section you cannot revisit without a new run. The completion consequences are set out on the achievements page.

PC save and config locations

Two folders matter on Windows, and they hold different things.

Windows paths
WhatPath
Save games%LOCALAPPDATA%\Hellraiser\Saved\SaveGames\
Settings and config%LOCALAPPDATA%\Hellraiser\Saved\Config\Windows\
Steam Cloud tracked path%USERPROFILE%/AppData/Local/Hellraiser/Saved/

Steam Play and Linux: under Proton, the same Windows paths appear inside the game's compatibility data directory rather than directly in your home folder, alongside the game's Steam app id.

The Cloud path covers the Saved folder rather than only SaveGames, which is why Cloud can restore settings as well as progress.

Backing up and restoring

Because there is no chapter select, a manual backup is the only rollback that does not cost you a new playthrough. The procedure is the same as for any folder-based save system.

  1. Close the game

Exit fully rather than leaving it running, so the files on disk are the ones the game last wrote.

  2. Open the save folder

Paste %LOCALAPPDATA%\Hellraiser\Saved\SaveGames\ into the address bar of File Explorer.

  3. Copy the folder somewhere safe

Copy the whole folder rather than a single file, so the slot set stays consistent.

  4. Label the copy

Record which chapter the backup covers, since the file names will not tell you.

  5. Restore by copying back

With the game closed, copy the backup folder back over the original to roll progress back.

Cloud conflict risk: if you restore an older local save while Cloud sync is active, the newer Cloud copy may overwrite it on next launch. Restore with the game closed and check the sync prompt before letting it proceed.

Steam Cloud behaviour

Steam Cloud is listed as an official feature of the game, which means progress follows your Steam account to another machine without manual copying. Reference documentation records the Cloud flag as true for this title.

  • Cloud sync requires an internet connection, so it does not function in offline play; the local save still works.
  • A second PC that has never synced will pull the Cloud copy on first launch rather than start fresh.
  • Cloud holds the newest upload, not a history, so it is not a rollback mechanism on its own.

Whether the game can be played without a connection at all is covered separately on the DRM and offline play page.

Slots and why to rotate them

The game offers around ten save slots, and reported guidance is to rotate through them rather than overwrite a single one. Two features make that advice concrete.

  • There is no chapter select, so returning to an earlier point means loading an earlier save.
  • There is no post-credits free roam, so objectives missed before the ending cannot be picked up afterwards.

Keeping saves at key locations means a missable objective can still be finished from a save made before you left the area. Which objectives that affects is listed on the achievements page.

Demo saves are separate

The demo is its own build with its own storage requirement, and its progress is not campaign progress. A demo save and a full-game save are different files, so finishing the demo does not advance a campaign.

That also means the demo does not give you a head start on a completion run, and its saves can be deleted freely once you buy the game. What the demo covers is described on the demo page.

Frequently asked questions

Where are the PC save files?

In %LOCALAPPDATA%\Hellraiser\Saved\SaveGames\, with settings in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Hellraiser\Saved\Config\Windows\.

Does the game support Steam Cloud?

Yes, Steam Cloud is listed as an official feature and reference documentation records the Cloud flag as true. It requires an internet connection to sync.

Does it support Xbox cloud saves?

Not documented. The reference entry for the game leaves the Xbox cloud field empty, so cross-device save sync on Microsoft platforms is unconfirmed.

How many save slots are there?

Around ten. Rotate them rather than overwriting one, because there is no chapter select and no post-credits free roam.

Does demo progress carry into the full game?

No. The demo is a separate build with its own save data, so demo progress is not campaign progress.
